TCF Canada practice tests that match the real exam
Each Exam Hero mock is a complete TCF Canada practice test: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking, in the same order and with the same timing as test day. Listening plays each recording once, and the questions get harder from A1 to C2, as in the real paper.
Listening and Reading are marked against an answer key. Your three Writing tasks and three Speaking tasks are assessed against FEI's published criteria, so the result shows what to fix, not just a number. The combined report gives your four scores, the NCLC in each and your lowest NCLC.
Take your first mock at the start of your preparation to find your weakest test, then use the question bank and study guides to work on it before your next full mock.
What is in a TCF Canada mock test?
| Test | Format | Time | Your result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listening (Compréhension orale) | 39 four-option questions, each recording played once | 35 min | Estimated score out of 699, with NCLC |
| Reading (Compréhension écrite) | 39 four-option questions | 60 min | Estimated score out of 699, with NCLC |
| Writing (Expression écrite) | 3 tasks: 60–120, 120–150 and 120–180 words | 60 min | Estimated mark out of 20, with NCLC |
| Speaking (Expression orale) | 3 tasks with a live French examiner, including 2 minutes to prepare Task 2 | 12 min | Estimated mark out of 20, with NCLC |
How your NCLC estimate works
Listening and Reading answers are marked against the answer key and turned into an estimated score out of 699. Writing and Speaking are marked against FEI’s published criteria and given an estimated mark out of 20. Each score is then converted to NCLC with IRCC’s chart, and the report shows your lowest NCLC, the one that decides for Express Entry.
FEI does not publish how answers become a score, so every practice score is an estimate. Use it to find your weakest test and to measure your progress from one mock to the next.

How to use mock tests in your preparation
Take a first mock at the start to find your NCLC in each test. Spend the next weeks on your lowest test with the question bank and the study guides, then take another full mock to measure the change. In the last weeks before your exam, take a full mock every week under exam timing.
Is there a free TCF Canada practice test?
Yes. Every free Exam Hero account includes one full-length TCF Canada mock test with real timing and AI feedback on Writing and Speaking. No credit card is required.
How close are the mock tests to the real TCF Canada?
Each mock follows the TCF Canada format: Listening, 39 questions in 35 minutes with each recording played once; Reading, 39 questions in 60 minutes; Writing, three tasks in 60 minutes; and Speaking, three tasks in 12 minutes, including 2 minutes to prepare the role-play.
Do I get a score after the mock test?
Yes. You get an estimated score for each test, out of 699 for Listening and Reading and out of 20 for Writing and Speaking, with its NCLC and CEFR level and feedback per criterion for Writing and Speaking, so you can see how far you are from the NCLC level your program requires.
Can I take just one test, like Writing or Speaking?
Yes. From any mock you can open a single test (Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking) and take it on its own, with the same timing as the full exam.
Do the mock tests work on my phone?
Yes. Exam Hero works in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and your progress syncs when you sign in with the same account. The Speaking test needs access to your microphone.
